Well, here we are again, at the end of another year. Where did the first 22 years of this century go, let alone the past 11 months? There are a few things I’d like to remind you; the first is that you’re going to gain weight this winter, and secondly, you or someone in your family will probably get a cold or the flu. (Bummer, huh?) What can you do about it?
First, it is a natural phenomenon that our bodies prepare for winter, and will put on a few extra pounds in case we hit lean times. Usually, it’s the other way around, and we’re presented with all sorts of choices involving sugar, dairy, processed and refined foods, and alcohol. Best thing to do first; eat something healthy before you go to a party or when you first get to a party. Two, set a limit for yourself regarding alcohol, number of sweets, etc. In between the parties eat as healthy as you can with lots of veggies, whole grains, fiber and protein.
To battle the little nasties carrying cold and flu viruses, boost your immune system. 1. Wash your hands after you have been outside, in public. 2. Get plenty of sleep. 3. Increase your intake of garlic, ginger and turmeric. (all natural anti-inflammatories) 4. Take 1000 mgs of Vitamin C and 50 mcgs of Vitamin D3 daily. 5. Drink 2 – 3 cups of green tea per day (can add ginger to it also). Dr. Ben
