Let’s talk about your emotional health, environmental neuroscience, superfoods, stretching your neck, and improving your circulation.
Well, here we are, December 1st and the end of the year is almost here, with winter officially beginning the 21st. What truly bugs me are the shorter days, the colder weather and less sunshine. However, I know it’s all part of the seasonal cycle, so I’ll make the best of it.
Here’s what I have found; it’s natural to gain 5 to 7 lbs. during the winter months, it’s common to get depressed, even to the point of getting SAD – seasonal affective disorder, which occurs for some individuals who don’t get enough sunlight. It can be a joyous time or a melancholy time, dependent on your history and how you view the holidays, but this can be a key takeaway – seek community for support and sustenance with people who you care about and who care about you. Some-times this may happen outside your family.
What is also beneficial to your mental and emotional health is serving others and helping those who are in need, whether it’s a friend, an acquaintance or strangers at the local mission. Research has found that people who volunteer and serve others are happier and healthier than those individuals who don’t. Please consider the impact you might have on someone who you took the time to lean a helping hand. It could very well be the best present of all for them. BG
The new field of environmental neuroscience proves, exposure to nature isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity.
