I know that our Southern California winters are no match for the Midwest or Northeast, but we do occasionally get temps into the 30s, and I have noticed that a few people have come in complaining of tight and stiff muscles due to being unusually cold. So, what to do? The two places in your body that still have brown fat, the calorie-burning fat we had as babies, are in the base of your neck and over your heart. Keeping your neck and chest warm will help a lot, and for many people, wearing heavy socks and gloves and a hat also help. Think ahead and where you might be later in the day, and put an extra jacket, scarf and gloves in the car to have in case the weather changes.
