Let’s talk about a wellness lifestyle, benefits of movement, constipation, benefits of coffee, flossing your teeth, and an easy exercise to do during the day to stay alert.
I wish you all the very happiest of holidays this month. Since Christmas and Hanukah are on Wednesday this year, I will be available to see patients in Tarzana on Friday the 27th. I will also be available for appointments on the 24th, 26th and 31st of December and January 2nd.
Just a few reminders to help you make it through to next year. It is natural for you to gain 5 to 7 lbs. during the winter, you just don’t need to accelerate the process by overeating or eating too much processed food. Remember to drink water throughout the day, because alcohol tends to lead to dehydration. Listen to your body, particularly if you’re feeling tired; go to bed a little earlier so you still wake up at the same time in the morning. Connecting with family and friends and sharing stories is extremely healthy; just don’t bring up politics or point out someone’s weight gain. Remember, the theme is “peace on earth, goodwill towards men.” BG

DID YOU KNOW?
Floss As If Your Life Depends On It |
Your mouth is a dangerous place. It’s where bacteria live, and if you don’t get rid of them, they lead to cavities, infections, and even death. Yes, death. In 1900, a British doctor first identified the link between oral infections and diseases in other organs. These “periodontal” (around the tooth) infections get a hold of the soft tissue between your teeth and gums. Then they attack your body and start causing trouble.
When the bacteria spread, they can increase your risk of coronary heart disease by 25%. They also contribute to diabetes. In studies, pregnant women with poor oral hygiene showed an increased risk of miscarriage. Bacteria coursing through your bloodstream can also lead to dementia, and some researchers think they could even cause Alzheimer’s. All that misery because of dirty teeth? Sorry, but it’s true. And it’s avoidable. Just do what your mother and your dentist told you. Brush after every meal, floss before bed, and see your dentist at least twice a year. |
EXERCISE FOR THE MONTH
This exercise is great for strengthening your legs, improving your balance and as an “exercise snack” to help keep you loose and awake while sitting all day.

THOUGHTS FOR THE MONTH
“If a man loves the labour of his trade, apart from any question of success or fame, the gods have called him.” Robert Louis Stevenson
“You’re not stuck. You’re just committed to certain patterns of behavior because they have helped you in the past. Now those behaviors have become more harmful than helpful. The reason why you cannot move forward is because you keep applying an old formula to a new level in your life. Change the formula to get a different result.” Emily Maroutian
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” Jimi Hendrix
