HOW DO YOU VIEW YOUR HEALTH?
Do you believe that if you’re not sick you’re well? Do you believe you have been shaped by your genetics and you’re really not in charge of your health? Let me tell you; the way I see it is we all have to play with the cards we are dealt. We’ve all been dealt different health “cards” such as family history of heart disease, allergies or other conditions, but it doesn’t mean you are doomed by them. The famous running guru Jim Fixx was “destined” to die at age 41 due to his genetics and lifestyle, but he changed his lifestyle and lived until he finally succumbed to his genetics at the age of 56. Your genetics have dictated your shape and size, but you choose how healthy you’re going to be. Poor lifestyle choices have contributed to 8 of the top 10 causes of death in the U.S. Where will your lifestyle place you?

EXERCISE FOR THE MONTH
Seems like there’s a lot of hip pain going on this month, so let’s review a simple exercise to help keep your pelvis relaxed. Sit in a chair with your back against the chair back and sit up straight. Cross your right ankle onto your left knee and lean forward from your hips (not waist). You should feel some stretching in the piriformis muscle or other butt muscles. Hold for 30 seconds, then repeat on the left side. Do this at least once a day, preferably 2 or 3 times each day to keep your hips and low back relaxed and mobile.
